塑料型材尺寸不穩定指在相同的塑機和成型工藝條件下，每一批成型制品之間或每模生產的制品各型腔成型品之間，塑件的尺寸發生變化。

異型材產品尺寸的變化是由于設備控制反常、注塑條件不合理、產品設計不好及物料性能有變化等原因造成的。

成型原料的收縮率對塑件尺寸精度影響很大。如果成型設備和模具的精度很高，但成型原料的收縮率很大，則很難保證異型材件的尺寸精度。一般情況下，成型原料的收縮率越大，塑件的尺寸精度越難保證。

因此，在選用成型樹脂時，必須充分考慮原料成型后的收縮率對塑件尺寸精度的影響。對于選用的原料，其收縮率的變化范圍不能大于塑件尺寸精度的要求。

應注意各種樹脂的收縮率差別較大，根據樹脂的結晶程度進行分析。通常，結晶型和半結晶型樹脂的收縮率比非結晶型樹脂大，而且收縮率變化范圍也比較大，與之對應塑料型材件成型后產生的收縮率波動也比較大;對于結晶型樹脂，結晶度高，分子體積縮小，塑料型材制品的收縮大，樹脂球晶的大小對收縮率也有影響，球晶小，分子間的空隙小，塑件的收縮較小，而塑件的沖擊強度比較高。

此外，如果異型材成型原料的顆粒大小不均，干燥不良，再生料與新料混合不均勻，每批原料的性能不同，也會引起異型材塑件成型尺寸的波動。
