當前，塑膠異型材制件在汽車制造上的應用日益廣泛，無論是汽車外裝飾件、內裝飾件如儀表板、車門內板、副儀表板、雜物箱蓋、座椅、后護板等，還是功能與結構件等，到處可以看到塑膠異型材制品的影子。在汽車輕量化浪潮的推動下，塑料在汽車領域的應用更為廣闊。

據了解，現代汽車上100KG的塑膠異型材材料取代了原先需200～300KG的傳統金屬材料，具有十分突出的減重效果，對于節約能源及降低CO2排放也具有重要意義。汽車塑料進氣歧管替代金屬可減輕質量40%～60%，且表面光清流動阻力小，可提高發動機性能，并在提高燃燒效率、降低油耗、減振降噪方面都起到一定作用。

汽車用塑料分為兩種：一種是熱固性塑料，它們能夠經受住普通的烘漆操作;一種是熱塑性塑料，具有加工容易、快速的優點。車用塑料品種目前已達幾十種，平均每輛汽車塑料用量已占汽車自重的5%～10%，隨著汽車輕量化的發展要求和汽車塑料技術的擴大應用，汽車塑料的單車用量今后還將會進一步增加。

關于塑膠異型材在汽車領域的應用，有些讓人意想不到方面，我們一塊來了解下。

保險杠是塑料制成：保險杠被譽為保證車輛安全的第一道屏障，在很多人的印象里，保險杠應該是用堅固的金屬制成，然而實際上并非如此，汽車保險杠都是用塑料做的。

在現代車輛設計中，汽車鋼性并不是靠保險杠來承擔的，主要由車身框架設計而定。也就是說保險杠的薄厚和材質，并不能直接決定車輛的安全性，真正保證車輛被動安全的，是塑料保險杠背后的各種高強度鋼車架，和塑料覆蓋件無關。

其實，保護行人才是現代保險杠最大的職責。早期的車輛保險杠多是用金屬材質制成的，雖然這樣的設計很堅固，但對行人來說被撞擊后無疑會受傷嚴重。目前保險杠的首要作用已由保護車身的結構部件轉變為是保護行人為主減小損傷為輔的功能性配件。融合了加強橫梁(防撞梁)、吸能緩沖材料(塑料泡沫)和塑料覆蓋殼體(保險杠)這些構件的現代設計的保險杠成為了主流。由于塑料具有良好的彈性，在結合了內填充的塑料泡沫材質之后，可以有效緩解撞擊力，配合前杠的合理設計，能有效降低行人被撞時的受傷程度。

同時，當車輛發生輕微的碰撞或刮蹭時，塑膠異型材保險杠可以自動回彈自動修復，即使是掉漆后，也可以通過噴漆來修復，比鈑金修復更便宜。
