透明塑膠型材首先必須有高透明度，其次要有一定的強度和耐磨性，能抗沖擊，耐熱件要好，耐化學性要優，吸水率要小，只有這樣才能在使用中，能滿足透明度的要求而長久不變。

比較可得PC是較理想的選擇，但主于其原料價貴和注塑工藝較難，所以仍以選用PMMA為主，(對一般要求的制品)，而PPT由于要經過拉伸才能得到好的機械性能，所以多在包裝、容器中使用。

透明塑料型材的工藝特性，現分述如下：

1. PMMA的工藝特性PMMA粘度大，流動性稍差，因此必須高料溫、高注射壓力注塑才行，其中注射溫度的影響大于注射壓力，但注射壓力提高，有利于改善產品的收縮率。

注射溫度范圍較寬，熔融溫度為160℃，而分解溫度達270℃，因此料溫調節范圍寬，工藝性較好。故改善流動性，可從注射溫度著手。沖擊性差，耐磨性不好，易劃花，易脆裂，故應提高模溫，改善冷凝過程，去克服這些缺陷。

2. PC粘度大，熔料溫度高，流動性差，因此必須以較高溫度注塑(270-320℃之間)，相對來說料溫調節范圍較窄，工藝性不如PMMA。注射壓力對流動性影響較小，但因粘度大，仍要較大注射壓力，相應為了防止內應力產生，保壓時間要盡量短。

收縮率大，尺寸穩定，但產品內應力大，易開裂，所以宜用提高溫度而不是壓力去改善流動性，并且從提高模具溫度，改善模具結構和后處理去減少開裂的可能。當注射速度低時，澆口處易生波紋等缺陷，放射嘴溫度要單獨控制，模具溫度要高，流道、澆口阻力要小。

3. PET成型溫度高，且料溫調節范圍窄(260-300℃)，但熔化后，流動性好，故工藝性差，且往往在射嘴中要加防延流裝置。機械強度及性能注射后不高，必須通過拉伸工序和改性才能改善性能。

透明塑膠型材模具溫度準確控制，是防止翹曲。變形的重要因素，因此建議采用熱流道模具。模具溫度要高，否則會引起表面光澤差和脫模的困難。
