PC聚碳酸酯是一種綜合性能優良的熱塑性工程PC異型材塑料，其電性能優良，吸水率低，透光性好，可見光的透過率可達90%以上，是五大通用工程塑料中具有良好透明性的品種，同時又兼備較高的強度、延展性及韌性的品種，從而被廣泛應用于電子電器、家電、燈罩，建筑建材、汽車制造和醫療器械等多個領域。目前PC塑料已成為五大工程塑料中增長速度較快的通用工程塑料。

2005年至今，中國PC消費量從60萬噸迅速增長至180萬噸，年均消費增速10%。預計未來中國PC需求仍將快速增長。聚碳酸酯板材的隔熱性能比普通玻璃高25%，抗沖擊強度是玻璃的250倍，而重量僅為玻璃的1/2，因此PC是建筑裝飾業理想的采光材料。PC異型材在各種形狀的大面積采光屋頂、樓梯護欄及高層建筑采光設施等領域有著廣泛的應用。

而汽車是PC另一大重要的終端應用，在國外發達國家的消費比例在20%左右，但在國內的消費比例僅為5%左右。汽車輕量化趨勢越發明顯，聚碳酸酯具有優異的抗沖擊強度、易于模具加工，與傳統材料如高速鋼和鋁合金相比，大幅減少重量。此外，光電領域使用的PC薄膜、用于LED照明的光擴散PC異型材、醫療器械中的耐輻射PC等均是未來潛在的需求熱點。根據預計，未來中國聚碳酸酯市場仍將保持8%-10%的增長。
