廢舊塑料比較正式的說法叫消費后塑料廢料，簡稱廢料，是指消費或使用后的廢棄塑料制品。塑料材料在進行合成、成型加工、流通等環節也會產生廢品、廢料，這些塑料廢料又叫消費前塑料廢料，雖然這也屬于廢舊塑料的范圍，但由于其產生的量相對較少，易于回收且回收價值大，一般生產廠家都會自己回收且將回收產品直接用在生產上。因此，我們通常說的廢舊塑料主要是指消費后塑料廢棄物。

廢舊塑料是直接將塑膠型材制品碾碎成粉狀或顆粒狀，仍可分辨是什么料，例如注塑、拉絲、還是膜等等

再生塑料是對塑膠型材制品的進一步的再利用，通過進行機械刀片粉碎操作以后，從而完成塑料的再次使用。

而再生料就是循環利用過不知道多少次無法準確分辨出什么東西，只能按照循環次數的多少來分級別，最少的開始，特級、一級、二級這樣等級來分類。
